Early Morning Single Track Mountain Biking: MTB Lesson Learned

As the title would suggest I have learned a valuable mountain bike lesson, needless to say the lesson learned is that I need to learn more. Let me explain. Most of my mountain biking has been cross country trails, climbing and the only time I descend fast is on wider, less technical, fire roads or trails. I’ve always had a need to learn how to rock the downhills on technical, narrow and  swoopy single track. This morning I left early to ride one of my favorite trails. (The trailhead is just over a mile from my doorstep and the proximity may have something to do with it being my favorite, it just so easy to ride anytime, although there are trails that are more fun within minutes if I packed the bike on my car.) Single track has a way of sinking deeper than the ground directly near it, causing a berm to form which requires you to sty centered, the problem I have is my tendency to go wide on turns or to stray on the straights. This is something I need to work on if I want to charge the downhill single track as fast as I’d like. Any suggestions on staying centered?

Above the trail network is as long as you’d like depending on your route you choose. Mt. Timpanogos towers overhead.

Above is part of the decent, these single tracks are a blast to shoot through, as mentioned I need to learn better balance perhaps to go faster on some of these sections. My brother always says when riding a dirt bike and if your ever in doubt just give it more gas, perhaps this principle applies here too?
